Owners often describe the same problem in different language: “Nobody makes a decision without me.” “My managers bring me everything.” “If I don’t stay on top of it, it doesn’t get done.” Those statements may describe real capability gaps. They can also describe a business that has been trained to depend on the owner.
The rescue loop
A leader moves slowly. The owner gets frustrated. The owner takes the decision back because he can solve it faster. The immediate issue disappears. The long-term dependency gets stronger.
Speed today can create dependency tomorrow.
Delegation is not abdication
The answer is not to throw decisions over the wall and call it empowerment. Delegation without structure is one of the patterns Man in the Mirror™ tests. Clear delegation defines the outcome, decision rights, boundaries, resources, standard, and when escalation is actually required.
Ask the harder question
When a leader brings you a decision he should own, do not begin with, “Why can’t he handle this?” Begin with evidence. Was ownership actually clear? Did you define the standard? Did you give authority with the responsibility? Have you overridden similar decisions before?
The Man in the Mirror test
UnshakableOS does not assume every dependency is the owner’s fault. It does require the owner to confront what he creates, tolerates, reinforces, ignores, or refuses to clarify. That is stewardship, not self-condemnation.
Before you fix the business, face the owner.
Begin with Man in the Mirror™ and enter the Owner Room with evidence, not excuses.
